Meet Leeora Catalan, the creative visionary and head designer of the accessories design house nOir Jewelry. Since its inception in 1994, nOir has established a deep brand following due to Leeora’s forward thinking and ability to push the limits of conventional jewelry design. What once began as a few styles, has grown into an established jewelry brand with a large variety of collections per season.
Leeora began her impressive career working at Ralph Lauren doing everything from production and design to assisting on shoots with famed photographer Bruce Weber. After leaving Ralph, she started designing for the dress division of fashion house Oscar De La Renta. By the age of 28, Leeora would head out on her own, combine her years of experiences and soon make a name for herself as a sought after fashion stylist in the industry.
It was at this time when Leeora was styling for a fashion show that she found a void in the jewelry market. Specific black beaded pieces were needed and Leeora took it upon herself to design and create them with the help of her then business partner and now husband, Mash. As soon as Leeora designed her first piece, it was bought on sight by Bloomingdales and immediately pulled by Italian Vogue to shoot. This marked the beginning of nOir.
Over the years, the brand quickly gained recognition within the fashion and accessories industries. Leeora set out to design a jewelry collection that reflected her design expertise and fashion forward personality and the result has been nothing short of a success. By infusing many personal influences such as historical fashion icons, present day pop culture as well as her backyard that is New York City, Leeora created a brand that encompasses urban modern glamour and wearable works of art.
With over 20 years in business, nOir continues to have a strong retail presence in the top specialty stores and boutiques around the world. In addition, nOir boasts an impressive resume of high profile designer collaborations including Marc by Marc Jacobs, DKNY, Betsey Johnson, Patricia Field and Moschino to name a few. The brand has also garnered a notable celebrity following over the years including that of Madonna, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kate Perry, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwen Stefani.
After having had such long-term success, Leeora began to explore expansion opportunities for nOir outside of her internal infrastructure. Then in February of 2014 it was announced that International Inspirations, the costume jewelry and fashion accessories company, completed the purchase of Noir. Owned and operated by husband and wife partners Shaya and Mandy Reiter, International Inspirations’ has had remarkable achievement having grown their company by 2000% since its start in 2005.
By leveraging International Inspirations’ manufacturing experience and connections, the goal is to establish an even stronger price point for nOir and in turn ensure its long-term success within the industry. With Leeora remaining on as Creative Director and the entire nOir team staying in place, International Inspirations is poised to launch an even stronger version of the already successful nOir brand.
